Have we reached the stage where teams can't go out in public?

After the tragic death of David Hookes, all of us who are or have been involved with high profile sporting teams are eager to find out whether this was just another non-specific nightclub brawl, or whether it was somehow linked to the fact that high profile cricketers were at the pub. If the team was targetted because smart arses thought they wanted to pick someone famous to fight with, then we may reach the sad stage where sporting teams have private parties rather than go to pubs and clubs. This already happens in the USA, where it is rare for teams to go out, so called "unprotected". The Monica Seles incident also showed how risky it is for high profile athletes. Rock stars are also in the same boat and pretty much struggle to socialise in a normal fashion, preferring private parties where they can't get hassled. I suppose the other option is for teams to bring their own bouncers when they go out.

The great advantage of being a high profile male athlete is that when you go out in public there are dozens of women looking at you thinking "I'd love to f*** him". The great disadvantage is that when you go out in public there are dozens of men looking at you thinking "I'd love to smash him".
