My 14 year old son tore his anterior cruciate ligament playing football last week. MRI confirmed a full tear, we are in the process of finding a good orthopeadic surgeon in the Melbourne. Any suggestions from anyone?
Secondly he is on crutches at the moment but has no pain should he be walking on his leg?

This thread should definitely be of help:

On this issue, we are currently trying to develop a database for this site of almost every sports-orientated surgeon, doctor and physio in the country, so in a situation like this you can choose:
"Type of specialist = surgeon"
"Area of interest = knees"
"Location = Melbourne"

and our database will spit out 6-10 good options for you.

Sounds great in theory, so hopefully we will have it running in practice by June.

Good luck with the injury. I think it is OK to walk around on the injury if no pain and the knee doesn't give way (collapse). If he is a 14-year old terror, keep him on crutches to keep him honest and not doing anything stupid, but if he hasn't needed to go on Ritalin yet then he should be OK without the crutches.

And the catch for the database is that every sports practitioner wishing to receive some free advertising and patient referrals will be slugged for the privelage.
"physio" - $200
"doctor" - $500
"surgeon" - $10,000
