I get this pain in my shin's when I run, it feels like burning/lack of oxygen.

The pain is normally accompanied by small (1cm) hard lumps on my shins (1 or 2 on both shins), that get harder as I continue to excercise (become almost solid, like bone). The lumps are slightly visible before excersice and seem to dissapear when my legs are raised above my head.

I've had this since I was a teenager (I'm 27 now), I used to get it when I walked to school in shoes and I often had to stop walking because of the pain.

Seems better now I wear trainers most of the time in everyday life (pain only occcurs when I run these days).

I am a type I diabetic, otherwise very healthy (Blood pressure etc).

I've seen several doctors but they have told me so many different things I'm left with no concrete solution to manage the injury.

Anyone got any advice on what this might be and how to manage this pain?

Thanks

Michael

Sounds highly suspicious for chronic compartment syndrome. This gives shin pain on CONTINUOUS exercise only (walking or running). Feeling like the muscle or a lump becomes rock hard after walking or running for a while is classical of this syndrome.

There is a small amount on this at:

but stacks more via Google at:
