How is this......he played with a fractured jaw, a subluxed shoulder and then did his MCL. Tough bastard indeed. He'll be out for 6 at least, doesn't look like he's going in for surgery.

Western Bulldogs veteran Chris Grant could miss up to eight matches after straining the medial ligament in his left knee during the first minute of Sunday's 22-point win against Hawthorn at Telstra Dome.

Dogs' coach Rodney Eade said his key position player had suffered a grade two strain but was hopeful of a return after six weeks.

Eade praised the courage of Grant and revealed he had carried injuries into the game.

"We kept it quiet but he had a fractured jaw," Eade said.

"He got it plated during the week - so he played with a broken jaw and a shoulder that had popped out so he's a pretty tough player and it's just a bit of bad luck that he's hurt his knee in a fairly innocuous way."

Grant has stated he will decide his playing future at the end of this season and Eade was asked if the injury could influence that decision.

"I don't know the answer to that," he said.

"From my point of view I'd love him to play because I think he's got a bit to offer ? but he's still got time to play games this year.

"Knowing the character he is, I wouldn't think it would come into play. In his mind it will be a) if he's got anything to offer and b) hopefully being excited about the future - that he could see that there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow."
