Feel free to add to this list, but how about:
1. Dacron graft ACL reconstructions - 1980s (just about all of these failed).
2. Capsular shrinkage to treat shoulder instability -1990s
3. Prophylactic menisectomy in soccer players - 1970s
4. Menisectomy to 'treat' ACL instability - 1970s
5. Plate and screws for mid-shaft tibial fracture - unfortunately still being done today, and leading to lots of refractures through the screw holes.
6. Pre-reconstruction washout arthroscopy to 'prepare' the knee for an ACL reco - occasionally still being done today by unscrupulous surgeons.
7. Chondroplasty for knee osteoarthritis with no mechanical symptoms - maybe this should be no. 1 based on numbers of times this is done.
