it all started back at the start of oct 08; i woke up 1 morning with a stiff neck and as the days and weeks pasted the pain got worse pains down my arms, neck, pins and neddles in my 2 hands. i went to the hospital and had 2 xrays they found wear and tear and set up an mri scan for me. When the results came back they showed a prolapsed disc in my neck.( c6 c7). Was given pain kilers and told to take it easy. was told i was put on the waiting list to see the neurosurgeon which would be a possibkle wait of around 12 weeks.
In the meantime i started experiencing more excruciating pain.
returned to my GP and was given more pain killers which werent working at all.Went to the hospital and basically was told that as long as i can walk i wont be seen by the neurosurgeon.
It took a further 3 months(yes months) for my GP to receive the results of my MRI scan from the hospital and wrote to the neurosurgeon requesting that i be seen right away. It took 6 days for the neurosurgeon to see me. Explained all my symptoms, pains down both arms, pains down neck and back, numbness in fingers and severe headaches.
He told me because of my age (29) he was reluctant to operate so prescribed me with yet more painkillers and arranged for me to go to physiotherapy. this was at the end of April 09 and i havent to return to the nuerosurgeon until Aug.
In the meantime i had no choice but to return to work. As i work in a warehouse its all heavy lifting
Have also been getting severe headaches which are lasting days at a time
The physio isnt working only leaving me in more pain so they started acupuncture instead which only relaxes me for a matter of hours.
Ive been back to work for the past 6 weeks and the pains have been getting worse. returned to GP AGAIN and surprise surprise...more pain killers which arent working

Im areally at my wits end as i feel i cannnot go on like this and no one seems to be helping me at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sounds very unpleasant.

I have had a bulging disc in my neck in the past and i responded to physiotherapy... obviously, my condition may not have been as severe as yours but also some physiotherapists are better than others. Maybe it would be worth while getting a second opinion from another physiotherapist, especially one who is familiar with the McKenzie Approach (used to help push discs back into position)??

The most important thing i learnt from my physiotherapist was the importance of good posture and changing my movement patterns so i was doing more activities to 'push the disc back in' and reduce activities pushing the disc further out - this way i was addressing the cause of my problem. Appropriate exercises also helped a lot.

My physiotherapist at the time recommended the following website which has detailed information on prolapsed and bulging discs, i think it would be worth while having a read:

http://www.physioadvisor.com.au/8043050/cervical-disc-bulge-cervical-disc-herniation-p.htm

Hope that helps and good luck.

In my track workout today and I ran 2 800ms and 4 400ms.

After this I started feeling a pain in my CHEST AND BACK. I Think this is because Im too tense when Im running and i need to lossen my shoulders and be more relaxed. Any advice?

-Thanks
