Hey fellas how you doing?

Currently, I play basketball for the Syracuse University in the New York area. 2 weeks ago I had sugery on my wrist to repair a very deep cut on my wrist during my construction job. They said that I had two of my tendons cut, my artery was lost and my muscle belly was stitched up. Currently I feel great, I am seeing a OT who is seeing me twice a week. My condition right now is that I can type freely using both of my hands and, no pain, I can make a fist, and move my fingers as well. I am just really sad that I can't lift weights anymore for the upcoming season. Did anyone have any suggestions on the amount of time it takes for flexor tendons to heal, is having my artery cut off going to be a problem in the future, and the muscle belly stitched up what does that mean? I am also wearing a splint that keeps my wrist bent.. taken MSM, Vitamin C, and Vitamin A, does this speed up the recovery time? Just wanted some words of wisdom from you guys, but hit me with the truth... Anything will help. Thank You

The flexor tendons take a bit longer to heal than the extensor and you could end up with some nerve compression (carpal tunnel syndrome) if there is a lot of scar. But it sounds like you are doing really well if you can already type.

You can probably live happily without a single artery because there are a few to the hand, which has a good blood supply. Just don't ever try a suicide attempt on that wrist, it might not work.

Yea, thanks about the suicide attempt option lol.. Anyway, I was wondering when you would think would be a good time to get back to lifting weights? Are there special sleeves I can use that reduce the amount of tension to your tendons? Dying to get back to the gym.

You could wear a wrist splint which will stabilise that area and cause you to get all of the load through the elbow and shoulder. Obviously speak to the surgeon as to when you can start doing this.
