Knee dramas have again halted Ben Tune's stop-start career after his fairytale comeback hit a reality check with more surgery.
Tune will be sidelined for at least a month after undergoing an arthroscopy that has ended any hope of him playing for the Wallabies this season following his impressive return for Queensland this year.
The 46-Test stalwart's Super 12 form at outside centre propelled him into the Wallabies squad before the injury scratched him from Australia A's series against the Junior All Blacks last month. The surgery has forced him out of the Reds' match against Auckland on Wednesday night.
Tune, out of the game for 21 months after reconstructions of both knees in 2003, played down the problem as "minor". The 28-year-old is confident of being available, if required, for either the Wallabies spring tour of Europe or Queensland's end-of-season tour of Argentina.
"I could be back within a month if I needed to," Tune said yesterday. "But I'll just take it pretty slowly. There's no need to rush."
Tune is one of four regular Queensland backs sidelined for the Auckland clash, including Elton Flatley (calf), Peter Hynes (hamstring) and Steve Kefu (pectoral).
