Hi All,

Im a little concerned to say the least. First my background. Ive been playing cricket (fast bowler) for the last two summers, and just this winter played football (soccer).

I have been experiencing lower back discomfort. Its not neccesarily pain, and its not located anywhere else but a specific point in my spine.

It only happens when i sit as well (not when standing or walking or sleeping). I get this pressure on a point in my spine pushing outward. Again, it is not pain, it just feels as though my spine is being pushed out with some kind of pressure.

I dont know what i have, and i dont know how long it will take to go away. Playing sport itself gives me no discomfort, its just when i sit down.

Any comments would be appreciated. For the moment im just doing lower back exercises and swimming, and riding a bike. I think ill have to skip fast bowling this summer and concentrate on batting.

thanks

Rylan

Sounds like a disc injury if it only occurs on sitting. You'd need a CT or MRI scan to prove this, but it might be overkill to get scanned. If you can play sport without pain it is almost certainly not serious.

whatever you do, don't go to a chiropractor! I had similar symptoms, primarily pain when sitting down. I went to my chiropractor and the next day had spasms in my butt, hamstring, abductor and calf muscles, and the pain got worse. The following day I lost the sensation in the side of my leg and half my foot. I was in a great deal of pain in any position (standing and walking were the least painful) for about a week and was hoping it would get better, but it turns out, after 2 weeks of phsyio and then a CT scan, that I now have 2 herniated discs and there's talk of surgery. If I were you, I'd get it looked at before you can't move at all.
good luck
