Hi i'm a medical student and was just wondering whether anyone has any tips on planning a medical elective in the field of sports medicine. I have an interest in cricket and as of yet do not have any firm project plans. Just wondered if there were any specialist cricket clinics etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

There isn't any formal training program for medical student electives. Best way to go is through contacts - if you know someone who can recommend you to a particular centre or doctor you want to work with, they can set you up. Definitely it is possible, as medical electives are unpaid. For the doctor taking you, it has pluses and minuses - obviously a fair bit of time needs to be taken out for unpaid teaching, but then the medical student can be helpful in the odd task here and there.

Im quite interested in the sports medicine clinics at Sydney university that are linked from this site. I was wondering whether I could attach myself to all the clinics there, and sort of work out somesort of personal timetable? And if so whether you could advise on potential contacts etc. thanks
