diagnosis after abdominal ultrasound: reducible inguinal hernia (direct)

does anyone know how long I can manage this injury?... I'm now on a waiting list (public hosp.) but if I can manage for a year on (mobic - anti inflaminatory)
I'll go private, Qld health not real encouraging at present.

I surf and play golf and doc not real clear on how much excercise/sport the hernia can handle.

Any info would be great??

Waiting list for hernia repair may not be too bad. This is a fairly standard surgical operation - even Dr Patel could probably do it OK (although he might decide whilst you are on the table that you also needed a heart transplant).

Pretty safe to play sport in the meantime. Main reason for getting hernia surgery is to prevent a twisted bowel from occurring in the hernia, which is very unlikely in the short term (the attitude of surgeons is that if you give a hernia long enough it may eventually twist so you should repair them all).

Thanks for the info.... it's interesting, worrying about the problem caused me to be extra alert to small pains etc, then once informed of the likeliness of is getting worse.. they (the sharp needle-like pains) seem to subside... bit of a mental thing also maybe, they're still there but not anywhere near as frequent.

thanks again!
