Dear guys,

My name is Ben & I am from London. I am a GB standard middle distance runner and Elite GB Duathlete - but not on the extremely limited GB medical programme... I was meant to be coming to your great country for the Elite world dualthlon champs this Sept in Newcastle.

I am desperate for advice / help.

I have ruptured my Tibialis Posterior badly, to the extent that a recommended foot & ankle surgeon has specified that donor tendon surgery to re-attach it is the only solution.. however, he has never performed this op on an athlete aiming to return to elite level competition and has made it clear this a complicated op which may not allow me to run again.

So in attempt to keep things concise I will ask only one question:

1. Assuming I do need this operation is anyone aware of a this type of surgery being conducted sucessfully on an athlete who was able to return to competition and if so who was the surgeon?

I would be more than willing to come to Oz if I felt that the best surgeon for this problem was to be found in your land of plenty.

I would be so appreciative of any help you can provide.

Many thanks.

Ben

Don't know of anyone who has had this done, but don't think you have any choice about having the surgery if the T.P has ruptured. Surgeons will often say they can't guarantee anything to cover themselves. I'd more do research within the U.K. to find out whether your surgeon is excellent technically at this procedure. There are some pretty good Foot & Ankle surgeons in Sydney, but long haul flights after ankle surgery would be very dangerous with respect to DVTs

Hi there,
I don't have any answers for you but some questions. I have been diagnosed with Posterior Tibialis Disfunction. My doc says it is not ruptured, but I sure heard pops when it happened. What exactly is your pain like? I have constant pain around the back on my malleolous and when I am fatigued, it's had to do single leg calf raises on that side. I also have pain/weakness when trying to point my toe in against preassure. The doc says that if I had ruptured it, I wouldn't be able to iven point my toe in. Is that true? Can you do a single leg calf raise or point your toe in? Is your arch flat as a result of your injury?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I lived in London for a couple of years and went to a great Sports Medicine clinic in London called Pure Sports Medicine based in Kensington and Wimbledon. They have links with some of the top orthopods in the country. I'd definitely go and see one of their sports physicians. Let me know if you want their contact details.

Good luck !
