Playing my first soccer season in about 3 years, season has almost ended however the past month and a bit has been far from comfortable. I dont really experience much discomfort or inability to move during the games, however the following days post match i have considerable discomfort in the groin area and also the lower ab area. it doesnt feel like an adductor muscle (inner thigh, not sure if thats the one) because i had a bit of tightness there a while ago but thats gone. i try stretch as much as i can before the match but doesnt really help, and if i were to stretch now it would be painful. also if i close my legs together and push in i feel a bit of pain.
what could the problem be here? and how what can i do to manage it.
only have 2 more games left so i guess i try get through them.

Does sound like a footballer's groin syndrome, which can involve adductor attachment & abdominal attachment on the pubic symphysis.
Do some reading on osteitis pubis, adductor tendinitis and sports hernia, which all overlap.
Then get through the season and do lots of low intensity cross-training in the off-season (as opposed to complete rest). If that doesn't work see a physio or sports doc.

yeah i intend on doing some weight training once season finishes, im guessing it would be smart to slowly get into the more intensive leg weights? or should i avoid doing weights?

crap did it again, that was my reply
Hi Deegee,
Sounds very much like what I've been dealing with. I play Oztag and this season, probably about 4 weeks into it, I started noticing a nagging pain in my groin/lower ab region.
It would hurt at the start of a game, usually on the first sprint, then be right and then be pretty bad the next morning or two days later.
About 6 weeks ago I actually felt something "tear" in my lower left groin and there was considerably more pain as a result. It was to the point that walking was painful several days later.
I saw a physio who then referred me to a sports physician, who ordered an ultrasound which thankfully showed no hernia or significant damage to the Conjoint tendon.
Basically, it's what others have suggested here, a bit of sportsman's hernia/footballer's groin etc.
My rehab has consisted of strengthening and stabilising my deep abdominal muscles, trying to improve overall pelvic stability. I'm now just returning to oztag this week (had my first significant training run on Sunday which was a little painful). Only 3 games left so the plan is just to get through the season and then spend the 4 weeks or so in the offseason avoiding sprinting and so on and just keep going with the lighter walking/weights/cycling/swimming exercise program I've been doing the past 6 weeks.
Just try and avoid the acute injury I suffered by playing through it. It's not pleasant :P
Good luck!
Chris

Well been 3 days since i last played, and i cant get rid of this uncomfortable pain in my lower ab area. I wouldnt say its sharp pain, its just there and feeling a discomfort.

Can you make it feel like a sharp pain with certain movements? Especially sitting up in bed, or coughing or sneezing?
Mine was an uncomfortable ache for a lot of the time, but certainly early on if I sneezed it was a VERY sharp pain.
It's worth having it checked out if it persists much longer. I left it thinking it'd fix itself until that rather acute injury which finally slowed me down!
