Personally, I go to South Sydney Sports Med. The guys there are total professionals and the physios are outstanding.

Everyone I know who gets hurt playing footy or whatever goes there, such is the reputation.

If you don't have a private insurance surgery is going to be expensive. A basic arthroscopy op will be $4000+ (surgeon ~$1500, assist surgeon ~$300, aneth ~$500, theatre ~$1500, hospital bed ~$400/day.

Make sure your knee is strong b4 surgery.

Good luck
Mark.

OK

If you want to see Julian Feller, you're best to go and see him at the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Richmond (white pages or google search). to see him though, you need to get a referral from a sports physician there. I saw Andrew Jowett and was in to see Julian a week later. After that you'll probably wait a week to 2 weeks for surgery.

He's the best in the business. Did my arthroscopy a couple of weeks ago. Pay outta pocket around $5K, a bit less if you pay within 21 days.

good luck

I had an ACL tear roughy 10 months back playing football. I had my arthroscopy op in Canberra with Dr Micheal Gillespe. I went private and Nick T is accurate in his $5k estimation. Somehow my ankle got infected so went straight back into hospital for about 10 days as doctors wanted to assure the infection didnt work its way upto the open wound around my knee. Problem then was all the muscles in the knee region stiffened up as I couldnt do my knee exercises post op. Scare tissue formed so I had to go under the knife again to clear the scare tissue as I couldnt exercise properly. I saw Doctor Ali Gursel from Speciality Orthopaedics. He is great and highly recommened.

Try and strengthen your knee as much as possible. I highly recommend using Kangoo Jumps for strengthening your legs. Website is www.kangoojumps.com.au.
They are the worlds lowest impact shoes. They work well simply because you can exercise without the jarring and impact to the knees, ankles etc.

Kangoo Jump are awesome Post op fo the same reason. Apparently some American Basketballers and NFL plyers use them to speeden th recovey process ad maintain their cardio. 10 minutes a day is great. Great investment!

TIPS: Good Physio is must, dont be scared to pay
Heaps of ice to reduce swelling
Use Kangoo Jumps before and after OP

Good Luck,

Check out LARS ligaments. My son had his ACL-MCL_PCL done 2yrs ago with quick & amazing results. We had to travel to Vienna but was worth everything. Dr. Barisani is great--recovery time was 4 weeks---no kidding!

Dr. Barisani is great--recovery time was 4 weeks---no kidding! They do all body ligaments--repair is done with artificial ligaments. Have been used worldwide since 1992.

I went to see a sports physician in the city (sydney) and they had me go see the guys at sydney sports & orthopaedic physio on macquarie street.

All i can say is they are awesome. They have diagnosed and managed my knee so well i now don't need the op i thought i was going to have to have

For anyone out west, I go to Winston Hills Physio (http://winstonhillsphysio.com.au) and see Mark Macdonald. I have been seeing him for any lower limb injuries since I was a teenager, I'm now 25 and am currently being treated for a torn ACL in preparation for surgery.

He's always been great and gotten me back on my feet asap. He's also had a stack of experience with sporting injuries.

I agree, Dr Gursel is a good surgeon and so far my knee is all good after my ACL reconstruction, however it is only the first week.
You need to ask lots of questions and try to be well informed about the procedure. Unfortunately I had a rude and condescending anaesthetist who failed to inform me of my choices and a procedure was carried out that I did not wish to have and was not part of the operation. Please make sure you are well informed and that they take you seriously if you say you have changed your mind about the operation!

I am in Sydney south.

I have been given two choices of ortho Dr Mark Ridhalgh Miranda or Dr Neville Rowden Hurstville

Any suggestions on which one?
