Don't know the name of the muscle/tendon affected (maybe even nerve?). It was mainly in the bottom heel of the foot, up to mid way(so, up to the middle of the sole). Because I have so many problems with my glutes, apparently there is a nerve that runs all the way down from the gluteus muscles, so my physio wasn't surprised to hear I had pain in the foot as well.

Thanks:) my foot pain is not in the same area... so I guess it's not directly involved with the hip but probably has to do with my stance & foot anatomy. Guess I'll need a podiatrist for that.

She did a bit of massage gave me four diffferent stretches and told me to come back in a week.
I have been doing walking/running in the pool each night followed by 5-10 minutes on the bike(was doing 20 but physio told me to cut back) and the stretches the physio gave me. Its feeling excellent for one month out but you can still feel something in there. This feeling is decreasing and I'm hopefull it will eventually disapear. I do still have pain in the buttock but hard to tell if this is 'old' buttock pain or pain because I can't really stretch the area at the moment.
I have sat leaning forward a couple of times in a position where it used to lock up when I stood, and hasn't, so that is reasuring. I guess I would say am progressing well, but jury is still out.
Other hip feels like it may be on the way out.....but that's another story.

Well this thread has completely gone dead since James has gone on holiday!! HaHa i suppose eveyone is waiting for him to come back for more good advice! Hope everyones recovery is going well!!
Hi Tallblack,
I know what you mean! I think the new year takes a while to get going surgery-wise, so people are kinda in holding bays at the mo!! Yeah, it would be good to hear back from a few folk, including James.
As for me, I'm doing really, really well I'm pleased to say. My new physio turned out to be very good - better than I thought. But I also attribute my success to this site, and getting excellent advice, including very detailed advice from James.
Tomorrow I start the first of a series of 5 special exercise classes with the physios who work at the centre I've been attending. These classes are designed to reinforce the philospophy/principles behind the physiotherapy they do. I'm REALLY looking forward to doing these exercise classes. Once I've finished with them, I'll probably continue to see the physio every few months, and I'm hoping to start with pilates too!!
By the way, how are YOU doing Tallblack? I've been meaning to send you another email, but have been sidetracked with a son who's struggling with senior work at High School. Also, are you still living in Melbourne, or are you back in Dunedin?
All the best. James, if you're reading this, let us know how you're going. How was the long haul flight on your hip?

I'm still here lol I am now 9 months post labral tear debridement and still having some issues. Saw my OS this week who now says I have a slight impingement (I kind of already guessed that but he'd never said anything about it) and basically until I can't handle the pain, there is nothing he can do. In his opinion my impingement is too small to warrant an open surgery, but they don't do scopes for impingement here yet so he said he could get me an appointment with an OS in Australia for a scope if I wanted to. At the moment I am functional and would be more worried about making myself worse, so I'm just going to carry on and see how it plays out. Hopefully by the time I need surgery they can do it here in NZ!
Jess
Your story seems to corroborate those who say that labral debridement alone hasn't fixed their problem/pain levels. I was fortunate to get an OS who does labral tears AND impingement probs simultaneously via arthroscope. I haven't looked back......................
All the best. At least you know you're just a plane ride away from an OS who can perform this type of surgery. Since I flew to Melbourne to have my surgery in April 07 I've found out that there's a Sydney surgeon who now does them. So you may be right in guessing that it's just a matter of time before someone does them in N.Z.
Hi Jean!
I will send you an email shortly.......good to hear physio is going well.
Hi Jess
Sorry to hear you are still having problems. Im having both but hips done two weeks apart in April in Melbourne, if you recall i was originally in Dunedin. I will post updates after the op's on here so you can have an idea on what to expect if you did decide to come to Australia for the operation.
Im currently do a pre-surgery rehab program with a physio but i have been very sick last week with the flu and i did aggravate it at one stage, but have just started getting back into the program. He said im currently doing well strength wise but not flexibility. he expects me to be running 4 weeks after operation (well 6 weeks as im having 2nd hip one as well). He expects since im doing pre-surgery rehab i will need approx 4-6 physio sessions afterwards to return to normal.
