Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for advice. Sorry in advance for the long post - but please read on.

I was rear ended in a car accident, quite a severe accident actually, 3 years ago and suffered an instant massive migraine and neck/back pain but could walk etc. I became sick and went to doctor next day, had x-rays etc was told I had broken neck but after hospital visit was told all ok but severed neck whip lash, told to rest. Symptoms persisted and became worse, sent toneurosurgeon.
Symtoms - severe neck pain
- blurred vision in right eye
- dizziness when turning head, feel like fainting
- when turning it feels like I have vertigo
- shaking of limbs & twitching
- migraines, hot/cold fevers, vomiting regularly
- pins & needles in legs & right arm
- 50% strength in right arm
- when looking up /down feel like my head will fall off (I know it won't)
- after manipulation, lost ability to use right arm & leg on occasion.

I have been on severly heavy doses of pain meds (narcotic variety) and medication to stop the limbs shaking which works on the neuroarea/ spine etc. Have seen several specialists over the last three years with things slowly getting worse. Was put on light duties & the more I worked the worse I became & the pain intense.

I was told by many specialists after lots of scans that nothing was wrong because the scans showed nothing severe. I found info on a website (swedish) where people had suffered same style of accidents and sypmtoms. They were told same things also. They all had spinal ops and fusions and were a lot better. My neurosurgeon has done the same special scans and found that the ligaments hold my spine & Ondontoid (peg) bone in place was probably torn and the scansshowed the peg bone moving from side to side when moving my head. All scans (MRI & CT etc) done in past have you laying flat which was showing things being normal.
The doctors are now saying I very lucky but still in dangerous state as falling or another accident could do me in. They are now talking about fusing C1/C2 which I believe is not a very fun operation.

Has anyone had this operation or are there other people out there that have been told "it is just a severe whiplash" and are suffering similar symptoms? What neorosurgeons have others used?

Sorry for the long thread but I wanted to get my info accross so that people can give best advice.
Looking forward top hearing what others have to say.
