Hello! Thanks for reading my post!
I'm a 26/F who has sustain a groin injury of some sort and need some advice. 2 weeks ago I pulled my groin muscle (or thought I did) while running to second base during a softball tournament. At first it felt like I pulled my muscle. I stretched it out and continued to play. Not wanting to forfiet my playing time I continued to play on it throught the day. Along the way, I gave up my field position and finally decided to nominate a baserunner for myself. I still had to bat (my favorite part anyways) and run to first on my own. As the day wore on, my pain got worse. I was hobbling and felt burning in my groin when I ran to first. It was painful and I cried every time I ran to first. During the 8th game I batted and while running to first I felt a slight pop or "catch" in my groin. I can't remember if he pain was more intense during the pop or whether I was scared I hurt something but I fell after the base as I had enough. The next 24-48hrs were brutal. I couldn't lift my leg and sitting in a chair hurt. Every time I'd get up my leg would burn like crazy for 10 second. It started to cause pain and burning down to my knee. I went to the dr in fear I did something terrible and she reccomended me see a OS. I went the next day (2 days after injury) and the xray was clean. He went on to reccomend an arthrography of my hip to rule out a Labral Tear. Ofcourse I was scared but was willing to do whatever. It took 2 weeks to schedule the test and meanwhile I was healing. So well in fact that I started to question the necessity of the test. I figured with how I felt, that most people wouldn't have gone to the dr at all. I don't like procedures and wasn't about to get one done if it wasn't needed. So I canceled my test and decided to wait to see where my symptoms landed a week from now. If I don't get better, I plan to go back for a re-evaluation. I've read that even if they found a labral tear, that sometimes surgery isn't necessary.
As of current, my groin PAIN is goneI have full mobility back and I'm able to sit, sleep, lay, stand and walk with no pain. I do however still have some tightness in my groin near the adductor tendon and I'm starting to get a slight pinch in my Right glute muscle/ very lower back. (Could this be from my lack of usage of the leg for a while?) I also do have a slight pop in my hip now when I lift my knee to my chest and bring it back down again. The pop is when my leg reaches full length againseems to occur in my upper pelvic bone region (atleast it's where the vibrating occurs) and also when I relax my leg outward in the shape of a 4.
Other than that, I'm pain free.
So question. I'm used to reading posts where people with labral tears have pain when the use the hip/leg. This makes me feel like it's not what I have due to the lack of pain. If it still could be a tear, what's the ramifications if I hold off on the test? If it is, how is it treated and are there options other than surgery?
I'm not one to blow off necessary treatment but I'm also not someone who wants to throw away money and risk further injury or add to my symptoms if I have a reaction to the test etc. What are my options?
I've spoken to my OS and he think I should have the test. (ofcourse he will still say that because it's his ass if i have a tear and said not to). But he also hasn't seen me in my new current condition.
Advice? Options? Personal experiences?
