Another sensible plan, which can only be criticised in the sense that it should have come in 5-10 years earlier. The technology is there for patients to get their Medicare rebate immediately, and it would cost the government a lot less to do it electronicaly rather than man Medicare offices to process cattle in queues.
The only reason the government have been worried by this introduction is the threat that it will make bulk-billing less attractive. In sports medicine this is not an issue, as bulk-billing rates are very low anyway (when the rebate is less than all other areas of medicine, how can you accept it as full payment)?
