Well I have received my letter today from when I went to see the Registrar for my six week check.
He has said that the wound have healed completely and nicely (yes I think I can work that out ) lolol. He then goes on to say that I am trendelenberg positive and is weak on straight leg raising. Now I had to look the word up!! He advises in the letter that he is thinking of referring me to physio for exercises, particularly with the weak status of the muscles. Again it is now over three weeks since I have seen him and not heard a word from the physio departement!! I think that I shall ring my own GP about physio as I know then that I shall get a referral within three days
Good luck with chasing up the physio. Your GP must be more efficient than ours-its always an 8 week wait here if you go through the GP. I found the best way to get a physio referral after my PAO was to get the consultant to give it to you at the clinic appointment, then actually take it to the hospital that you want the physio at-thats what Witt did last time and I had an appointment within days.
How are your pain levels and hows the walking going? xx
Kate I asked the stupid reigstrar for an appointment when I saw him and he said NO that he would sort it! To be honest I think I said in an earlier post I found him rude and rather brash!
Eight weeks. I think I would be going barmy if I had to wait that long. It is standard procedure within Torbay that if your GP refers you, you get an appt within three working days :-)
AS for the pain again nothing at all around the hip and joint itself, but the groin, ankle, heel and top of my right foot appear to be the problem. They are constantly on fire and talk about hurt, but I cannot explain what type of pain it is?? The groin is the same as after the FAI only double the pain now, but again I knew that there was a huge possibility of it happening.
Indoors I need top use a crutch still as full weight bearing on the right leg still hurts, and outdoors if walking a long distance then I do need both of my crutches. I know that Mark Ashworth told me originally that my recovery was going to be 15 to 18 months due to all the other problems, but you do hope that it will not be the case!
Yep we have a six week minimum wait for physio here and then it is not a great service. This pain sounds awful Paignton. I hope Pain Management can throw some better light and help on it when you see them.
Have spoken with my GP this morning and he has done the referral to physio and I go on Thursday morning of this week. :-) Shall let you know what they say!!
I GIVE UP!!!
Well I have been to see the physio first thing this morning, and feel that we are just going around and around in circles Each and everytime I have been referred to them they all say the same thing. We need to start you on gentle exercises from the start and hopefully things will improve in a couple of weeks. Now I have been doing these gentle exercises for eighteen months and I am no further forward. Today I have been given yet another yellow band for exercising with, but as he says three of the exercises he knows I cannot do as I cannot fully weight bear, let alone stand or balance on the operated hip! He has suggested that I keep trying to lift the leg and this will hopefully send signals to the muscles to start working.
As for the problem with the trenelenberg positive thingy he has said that IF we can get the gluteus muscles back up and working, along with the others above then in time things may start to improve. Why can't they see I need more than bloody yellow bands, and leg raising exercises that I cannot even do, cos I cannot life the leg!!
I sat there in his poky little room with tears in my eyes!
Sorry to hear this Paignton. Is it worth discussing this with Pain Management to see if they can get some specialist physio help. I have to admit I found the local NHS Physios really poor. I am sure for standard issues they are fine but for anything different they just carry on with what is standard. I was offered a place on the 'Major Injuries' programme and I wonder if your hospital has anything similar?
I see Pain Management on 5th next month, so yes worth asking about. It cannot do any harm
I just feel that they should be offering me exercises to do in the gym at these physio sessions. In the two years I have been going I have never yet seen anybody on the treadmills, exercise bikes nor the gym balls!!
The programme I mentioned in my post included sessions on all the equipment. I didn't use it as I hired a treadmill at home and then my surgeon said I had rehabed so well I didn't need any more but it seems crazy if they don't use this expensive equipment. Good luck!
