Default Scar Tissue after L5 S1 Microdiscectomy

    Hi,

A bit of an update. I had my Microdisectomy 3 years ago and in the last 2 months my symptoms have re-appeared.
I am currently looked after by a new GP and a new Physio.
I have had an MRI scan which showed only slight bulging but no protrusion. On the MRI the scar tissue from the Microdisectomy is touching the nerve and hence I am getting sharp nerve pain from my glut and if its irritated my posterior calf and inner ham.

Im wondering if anyone has had this issue.

    Hi Catherine.

It took me about a month or two to be completely pain free. And that lasted for 3 years. Of course there was a bit of a niggle here and there if I dont do my streches.

It was very hard at first as I was told that once the surgery is done the problem should be gone. I felt better but not 100% so I was really worried. Dr said the nerve is still irritated and it should go. I remember I had an appointment one month after the surgery and I was a very happy chappy then.

I did not take any pain killers after the surgery. Endone and Panadeine forte are pretty strong stuff (Im a pharmacist)

I dont want to be a downer but compared to me, Id be worried if I was still on such strong killers. I wish your pain goes away soon, wonder if you had gradual improvements in the last few months.

If it does go, please dont make the same mistake as me, keep up with your physio. 50% of your life should be focused on it.
