Default Does anyone experience hip pain when lying down?

    Hi
I had scope surgery in Dec08 for FAI (cam) and labral debridement to my right hip
The surgeon said he had to do a lot of work but seemed positive for my future.
Since surgery things have never really improved.
I have been told my condition is very complex.
I accept that but what is happening now is too much.
In Jan 12, I had a sudden onset of pain in my left hip. I have never had any pain in this area ever so am very concerned.
I have always had trouble lying down since my injury but the onset of this left hip pain has made it impossible to lie on either side.
It doesnt seem to matter what side I lie on , I wake with deep sharp pain radiating through both groins, down the outer sides of hips and thighs, the pain goes deep in the front and back of both my legs, deep in the outer sides of my butt, and across my back.
It is pain like I have never experienced, once I take a pain killer get up and move around the pain dulls down to its normal level but now includes random symptoms in my left hip.
Around the same time this started my right ( operated hip) started to pop and graunch on external rotation) even pops when I get up out of a sitting or lying postion. It never has done this before even before surgery.
My Gp thought bursitis so injected the left hip and then a couple of months later the right in 5 different places.
These did give me some relief, not completely and not for very long.
Things have flared up over the past month or two, I am desperate to have this diagnosed and treated.
I returned to my original hip specialist who had an xray done of both my hips, I have recieved a letter saying my joints are shallow but within normal and my xray is fine.
He has confirmed I have no arthritis in my hips.
He has suggested the pain clinic.
My first concern is he examined my hips a couple of times after injury and said they were fine.
The diagnosis of FAI and labral tear was made shortly after by another specialist and confirmed and treated by my OS.
My second, would the xray show any further labrum, or other soft tissue damage?
My surgery was not successful and these new symptoms are a great concern to me as I was already living with debilitating pain.
Does or has anyone else suffered from these same symptoms?

You sound as if you are experiencing classic signs of dysplasia. If you had your cam inpingment shaved this may have made the socket shallower and therefore more unstable. If I were you I would see a hip specialist that performs PAO surgery, and get another opinion.Where abouts do you live?

    Hi Kate
Firstly thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it.
I live in New Zealand, and have very limited options in my home town and surrounding area . The hip surgeon I have just seen has a really good reputation and seems to think all is good.
Can you expain what dysplasia is as I have no idea.
I have never had problems with this left hip and apart from the surgery I had in Australia, nobody I have seen for medical advise is all that familiar with FAI and lab tears ( most have never heard of it.)
I feel like I have exhausted all avenues.
