For years I've been treating myself as having runner's knee (patellofemoral syndrome) and finally I've had a physio look at it reasonably closely and it's actually pain of the patella tendon below the kneecap connecting to the tibia (?).

I did the pain assessment on this web site and came up with 69.

It's far from debilitating, just very very annoying, particularly after any sport/activity that requires jumping/downhill running/frequent stopping.

Treatment so far has been to loosen up hamstrings and calves, physio massaging and trying to release the kneecap (very tight), taping the kneecap to prevent it slipping laterally so much, ITB release massage (ouch) and glute/ITB stretching.

Also working on quad muscle control, pelvic stability and so on - very small squats/lunges under control.

And the ubiquitous ice after any activity that causes pain.

Just sharing, not really looking for help. Anyone else want to share experiences with what I gather is a fairly common problem?

PS: not really related, but I've dropped from 125kg in 2003 to 91kg. 10-15 to go and I'll be satisfied.
