I injured by knee a few weeks ago with suspected medial meniscus tear (Not sure of extent). Initially alot of swelling and difficulty walking but now I'm able to walk alot better though swelling is still there but not as much. Intermittent locking of knee - not sure whether this is due to the cartilage or swelling though.

Have been to the specialist and they seem very keen to operate, not offering much alternative solution. Have been given strong warning that I will have (or already have) arthritis and will prob get worse if not treated.

Is meniscus repair always necessary and what are pros/cons of surgery.
Anyone out there not had it done? Experiences???

I have also had tear of ACL few years back (yes - my knee not in best condition) but generally, the knee have not had any instability problems.

I'm not that active sportwise but do the occasional bushwalk, etc.
Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
