A bit like his team the Port Adelaide Power in the 2002 and 2003 AFL finals. (It looks like he is a Port fan).

Ha ha ha. You should be careful that Jacko doesn't bite back - he may uses his "power" for evil and reduce us all to tears again... from the sounds of it I-U, you are partial to the Lions on Sat? Last time they played they had the goods... 18. 15. (123) to 12. 14. (86) - that's a big margin Jacko!!

We will find out in a few hours time, but I for one don't believe there is much difference between winning matches in September and winning them in the regular season, other than the fact that the opposition is better.

If you are a flat track bully during the year that beats all of the non-finalist teams by plenty, but always falters against the top sides, then even though you might come 3rd or 4th on the ladder, you can expect to lose finals. However, Port Adelaide is a quality side that has faltered in the past in the finals, but has won more games than this against top sides like Brisbane during the year.

As I mentioned in another thread, they seem to be closer to their peak than Brisbane, so they are my tip for the AFL Grand Final.

In the NRL, I expect that the Roosters will get up (I hope) because the Cowboys, whilst peaking, are probably not yet of the same quality. I expect that the Bulldogs with beat Penrith because they have less injuries at the moment (and seem to be fresh like the Panthers were last year). I don't think you can draw the Panthers-Cowboys analogy other than the fact that they were both suprise packets, because Penrith were minor premiers in 2003 and the Cowboys just snuck in with basically a 50-50 record. If I am right and it is a Bulldogs-Roosters Grand Final, then it is honestly a 50-50 game which will perhaps come down to luck on the day.

The great thing about finals is that you could be wrong and by Sunday night I might have 0 from 3, but I am expecting the favourites to win in the NRL and for Port to upset the Lions in the AFL, knowing how important it is to have your big guns fully fit for the big games. Lots of luck in achieving this at the right time, and all credit to Brisbane for defying the odds in 2003, even more so if they can do it again.

The insults are certainly flying around here... I can't really give a tip for the AFL as it is happening around me (and all opinions are unbiased around here... (!)) but I can't really see the Cowboys getting up over the Roosters - they've had a top season but they aren't really Premier material yet. I'm gunna hope for a Panthers victory though... not entirely sure why, but I'm not a fan of the Bulldogs - no medical or otherwise logical reason!

I'm hoping I have managed to agree with everyone, lest I am forced to become involved in the "premature" - maybe immature? - name-calling going around... ha ha

Although I like the Lions as a team, for a couple of reasons I was glad to see Port get up. I think they were unfairly labelled as chokers for having a couple of bad finals series. Also, it will break Collingwood's heart to know that Port was able to knock off the Lions but they couldn't do it with two cracks. Port also don't have salary cap concessions, so Eddie Maguire's complaint that Brisbane beat us because they have a higher salary cap now rings hollow.

I had a strong feeling Port would win though, as I wrote on this Forum in advance. Tonight's NRL game will be interesting. Penrith have a lot more players missing and injuries in general. It may come down to whether Sherwin and Anasta (the halves who decide many NRL games) are fully fit or not.

Normally football tipping is mainly luck, but this post turned out to be right on the money, if I don't mind saying so myself. Port Adelaide and the Bulldogs (against Penrith) were both good tips, the Roosters snuck in against the Cowboys, and although I didn't offer an NRL Grand Final tip (I imagine I would have been wrong if I did), saying it was a 50/50 game was a fair call, given the Bulldogs won by 3 win the Roosters attacking their line in the final minute.
