Fee ....lol .... that last description is me to a tee haha . Ya i know we're only as old as we feel , just a shame that lately ive felt about 90 ...no seriously i still feel young and silly and apart from the odd blipp lately loving life and raring to go !! My ankle feels really quite sore around my ankle bone these last few days , ive started trying to do a few stretch exercises to try and get my redundant body back in gear and maybe ive done abit too much so have to really rest it again .... guess im just not meant to look like some hot young chick anymore ( not that i ever did of course ) lol
anyway just forced the last bit of my porridge down me ... see i am trying and now im going to try amd make myself look half human
    thinking of you all

Balanie: Congrats on getting the boot!! You will start to notice some nice quick changes now that you get to take your leg out and start PT. Don't forget to find a shoe for your non-injured side that matches the height of the boot. You can get all twisted up in the knee, hip, and back if the two sides don't match somewhat.

Speaking of getting twisted up in the back. Oh man..... I am certainly a creeper now. Picture this; I still walk a little like Frankenfoot/penquin and now I have got my back all in a spasm so I am half bent over. Of course I can't believe this is happening to me so as I walk I am kind of laughing. So I am half bent over, waddling, and laughing. And......... I can't stay home to hide today like a proper monster would do. Ha!

If I didn't laugh about this I think I would seriously go crazy!

    Balanie,
I am from the non surgical thread but keep an eye on this one because I think that both methods of sorting ATR have a lot in common. Whatever you do keep the boot on at night!! The last thing you want to do is wake up in the night, forget that you are an ATR and step on that vulnerable foot!!!! Can cause real problems. I found the boot heavy and inconvenient, but that is a fact of life, it will pass. I wore a pillow case on the boot when I was in bed to keep the bed clean (after all the boot is basically an outside shoe!). Careful in the bath, I slipped once and it was very scary.

    All the best, WWDave

WWDave: The pillow case is a BRILLIANT idea. I never thought of that. I had this huge set up with a second set of covers. A simple pillow case?!!!!! I am dumb!

balanie: My back is straightening up a little but still a bit eskew. I look lovely. I am sure all of the little kids that see me are creeped out by the weird lady. Oh well. I agree with WWDave about sleeping in the boot at night. I have heard of people not doing that and rerupturing on their way to the turlie. I am usually having to step over two greyhounds so I kept the boot on at night and would take it off in the morning when I got my wits about me. How does your incision(s) look?
    Hang in there.

    Balanie,
Just to give you a second opinion on the boot in bed topic, I went the other way with it. I slept with my foot out of it and loved it. My doc said it was fine and I never once had an issue with forgetting about being unprotected. I was even getting up in the middle of the night with the baby and just hopping on down the hall. I actually think it may have helped me as I was letting the tendon heal in the relaxed state at night and then would stretch it out a bit during the day (boot was about 12 degrees off of 90 for me until the last week when they brought it to flat). When it came time to start PT my flexibility was amazing and that has really carried over to getting back to walking and feeling normal again.
I am not telling you to not wear the boot though, just wanted to let you know that not everyone does. The one thing that there is no debate on though is that it is WAY better sleeping without it. I just loved going to bed.

Best of luck and happy healing everyone!

    Jon

Hi all , just been the physio and thrown in a few more exercises . My ankle is still quite tender by the bone and swollen and bit bruised .... mentioned it to physio who said have i heard a pop ...OMG no dont even say THAT word i said ...but i know its not like that at all , its not pain just tender so we think its becaues of the extra work im doing with it ...have you guys experienced this at all . Ive been off work now since before Christmas , thankfully they're ok about it but ive decided whatever its like come the Whit week schools are off i'll to go back regardless .I know some have gone back alot earlier but i suppose it depends on your job , im a special needs Teaching Assistant in a high school so im up and down all day , sometimes pushing wheelchairs and also toileting some of the kids so its hard work on the old legs !! I might try and drive later this week but just a bit worried about the emergency stop but i'm goning to have a go round the block .
    anyway thats me for now
    take care all of you
    Kaz xx
