    Default Think I'm losing it!!!!

I just signed up to this forum. I read a bunch of threads and feel that I am right at home. I must say that you all have made me feel a little better.
Lately I've been really wondering if I've gone loco . I have pain in my hip, especially in the low buttock area. The funny thing is though is if I rest (lay down on the couch or bed) the pain seems to almost go away, that is until I get up and start walking around, then the pain will increase until it hurts and I have to rest again. By the end of the day, all I want to do is plop in bed and not move.
This has been going on for almost 4 months now following a car accident. I was the passenger. Anyways since then I've had Chiropractic and the other thereapy with only getting a little better! I then went and had X-rays that showed nothing wrong, so I continued with thereapy. Got tired of that and ordered a MRI of the lower back, that also came back negative, so I did more thereapy. I then had a Hip MRI that showed nothing wrong! So once again i did more therapy! Finally I decided about 2 weeks ago that therapy wasn't doing much and took it upon myself to call a bone doc in Providence, he saw me, said it might be Acetub...... joint tear (sorry not sure exactly the name of the joint). He ordered an arthrogram and MRI for me which I went and had done this afternoon. Just to note after having this done i don't think I can take any more tests, this one was just too much! It doesn't actually take a really long time to do the test, but even 10-15 minutes of trying to lay still is just too much, I have to move something or it will drive me insane (the stiffness pain).
My sanity is pretty much on the line here, my boss kinda looks at me like I'm faking it, and I think other people do too, or maybe I'm just imagining it. I guess I'd be looking at people funny if multiple test came back negative too, but now being on the other side I see things in a different light!
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I'm talking about the boss and other people looking at you funny or is this just all in my head?
Sorry this has been a really long post, but I guess the first one usually is, good luck to everyone here, I feel your pain, literally

Hey there Linux...welcome to the forum.
You might like to check out the acetabular labral tear thread also. I can totally relate to what you're saying about your pain coming and going and people not believing you...I'm sure people raised their eyebrows when I said I was having surgery because on the outside I appeared almost normal! Other sites you might also like to visit are the yahoo groups hipscopecommunity, labralicious and femoroacetabular impingement, lots of great info there :-)
Hang in there, when do you get your MRI/A results? If you have any questions just ask, there are lots of us on here that have been through diagnosis and surgery! Visit my homepage at www.jessmcb.com . I have a hip page and useful links and you can contact me directly through there :-)

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Hi

    Welcome to the forum,

People find it so hard to understand pain, its not like a broken leg where they can see the plaster cast. If people have never experienced chronic pain themselves they dont understand what it can do to a person. Living with pain makes us tierd alot, when we can sleep that is, it makes us irritable and in long term really gets us down. If you have hip pain you will walk in different way therefore always protecting your hip from locking or giving way. This also puts stress on the body.

Pain is the bodys way of telling you that something isnt right, listen to your body its only a matter of time before the cause id found.

In answer to people like your boss , they should refer you to your works occupational health advisor and even arrange for you to have a pain assessment at a local clinic and physio.
Your boss should support you while you are being medically investigated.
What line of work are you in and are you taking pain medication ?

Let us all know how you get on with your arthogram results

    XX Rachael

Default Results are in, I'm definetely NOT Crazy!

Well got the results from the doc and thankfully I'm not Nuts! I'm also not to crazy about the results either! Looks like there most likely is gonna be surgery involved
Anyways after all this testing (stressing me out is a better name for it) the doc called me and told me I have the following:
    1. Small horizontal tear within the mid anterior labrum
    2. Small inferior osteophyte of the femoral head.
The first one I assume is from the accident and the second one is just there to add to my pain! No seriously the second one which is a bone spur has probably been there for a while, not sure if that is giving me pain now either.
I haven't had the chance to sit down with the doc and discuss the next options, that will be on the 28th of this month.

Well just wanted to let people know that if you know something is wrong, but tests keep comming back negative DON'T be afraid to push your doctors into doing more tests. My problem is not an easy one to find, but thankfully this last test worked out, So push until your satisfied or like me, you will find yourself thinking that just perhaps you are going crazy!

I will post back when I get some more info, until then take care.

    Default forgot

Sorry rachael I forgot to answer your questions.
I actually have a few jobs.
At my first job I am a CNC Machinist, which basically means standing for 5 hours a day, moving heavy stuff, and running complex machines.

My second job involves recovering data from hard drives. People send me their beat down hard drives and I extract as much of there files off of it as I can. This is the job I like the most

My other jobs are maintaining a few websites of my own, I also like these ones the best too!

Medication I am taking are Ibeeprofine and Vic's, neither work really great, but when the pain is too much they do help a little. Basically I take the Ibuprofen 2-3 times daily and the vicoden as little as possible, don't need to cause any more problems, like an addiction . So I take them sparingly, maybe 1-2 times a day, sometimes more, sometimes less, it depends on the pain level of that particular day.
If it fails We can retreave it. And if it's not broke, then please don't try to fix it

What I found that controlled the pain was 1 regular tylenol and 1 advil. The combo worked well. see the bottom paragraph.

I know this post is in reply to rather old posts, but here goes............ I agree with doug30 cos before I had my op I controlled the pain with 2 advil and 1 tylenol (sometimes 2).
Linux, if you're still out there, how are you now? Have you had any surgery? I go to a chiropractor to help my body HEAL more than anything. I was in such a bad way before I found out I had a labral tear and osteophyte on my femur (just like you). I was going nuts too, so I know exactly where you're coming from. But there IS light at the end of the tunnel: hip arthroscopy. I presume this is what your doc has ordered??
