Afternoon..
6.75 weeks in- and i cant believe i'm finally suited and booted!!!!!!!!!
Just got back from seeing the surgeon and it feels ....well....i don't know?
1/2 hour ago..I was sat dreading the cast removal as the surgeon said if it hadn't healed he would have to operate..
I'm now sat with the boot off (amazing feeling) writing this and petrified to move my foot
However.. just to briefly tell you what happened..cast came off and he spun me over.. (thompson test..) watching nervously..foot flopping like a fish (mark).. squeezed and...what...?...no movement...? nurse watching on.. it hardly moved.. O>M>G it is my worst nightmare..!
"its healing nicely" The surgeon said...!!? Is it? It hardly moved and was just like the day I ruptured it...!!
He said there was a smooth line and the tendon was hard?
oh well...
..out came the boot..a couple of wedges and away you go so to speak..
Legends... are you reading?? Advice please.... I dare not pull my ankle back...where do I go from here (no songs please) I'm booked in for physio on the 8th..is this too soon... i mean.. I can only just fully weight bear!!
Jackson/oneP... welcome and good luck.. its a nightmare of an injury but I was and still am the worlds worst patient.. but I feel i am getting there...
the boot is a major milestone for me, I know one of you are in it already, but lets hope we can get through this together and motivate one another along the long road to recovery...
think i'll go and test the strength.....
speak soon
Vern..
Good Monkey (vern) i hope you get on with the boot - does it feel nice ? (please dont think im insulting you by calling you a monkey but we are all test subjects ,lol) I know im sad, but i have just purchased a portable ultra sound for when i go to the next stage, Ive done this as i dont know how frequent my PT will be. will keep you all posted.
Oh - by the way Vern LOL is not /lots ot /love. Just in case you thought otherwise Ha Ha
Vern.............You are moving forward nicely. You dont need to pull your ankle anywhere just yet, take it easy until you see the physio. They will guide you hopefully in the best direction.
Onepeg...........Interested in this extra tendon business. Tell me more. Make sure you have the right ultasound frequency, if not you will be wasting your time. Good to hear you trying it, I really rated it and loved doing it to myself in a monkey kinda way!!!! lol
Mark.
One peg- FYI i was not totally convinced about lots of love.. (good monkey) must be slang for something ie good egg?? it's amazing how bored one becomes suffering such a debilitating injury...? Ultra sound ..is this like woofer or tweeters??
Mark.. cheers for the encouraging words.. how were you when you came out of the cast? I tried to walk without boot and couldn't believe how weak my foot was-almost felt like it wasn't my leg!! when do you think i'll have some strength back? Should i be wearing the boot for bed?
I know i'll have to take it easy-im so impatient but snakes and ladders springs to mind..!!?
Fee : i have read your posts a thousand times.. luckily the surgeon has said my tendon is healing...which spares me the pain of reading about your hatstand antics forever..(lots of love) I love your posts really...keep em up!!
anyway...tarzan is calling.....(lots of love)
Vern...
One peg... FYI means for your information.... not FEE YOU IDIOT lol![]()
Ha Ha - Very good Vern - your on fire, Just like my Achilles feels right now.
MarkyJ - I didnt now anything about this extra tendon bid mate - Jacksonblue mentioned it - and I didnt have a clue what it was. I will be using 1 MHz - for the ultra sound. I still need to speak to PT about this though. but i will try anything. I also read a study about RATS and thier tendons, they basically took 40 rats, Cut a tendon in each (B*****ds) gave 20 rats a high daily dose of Vit C. and the others just a normal diet. It was deducted that the 20 Rats with Vit C made a considerable improvent over the others. I know im not a RAT (may have been called one occassionally) but im now taking high doses my self. Anyway you dont know until you try.
Top tip - dont get too wasted whilst on crutches- got V drunk and fel over yesterday - Kn*b!!!!!!! (luckily didnt touch bad foot - thank God)
To All have a great weekend and Bank holiday.
Vern..........Yes I remember that feeling well. My foot felt like it had just been attached to my leg after never having one. It was very very weak and flopped about like a fish for a few days. Gradually it started to feel like mine and not the next door neighbours.....this was quite quick from memory. As for night time, I chose to sleep in the boot for about a week just because I didnt want to kick out in the night and hurt it. Also I thought it would help maintain the stretch for a bit because when you sleep it relaxes. My choice - did me no harm at all!!
Onepeg - sorry mate, I thought it was you that said about the extra tendon, must have had a confused monkey moment - perhaps they have em??
I am off for a hot round of golf after missing all the nice weather last summer, enjoy your holiday weekend to all!!
Mark.
MARKYJ Tell me about the effect if any on your Golf I love the game and play off 9 the rupture is in my left leg. This is the thing I am most concerned about how long did it take you to get back to your A game, any advice on this would be very graefully recieved.
Also I will try to clarify the extra tendon bit. During the MRI scan the doctor said that although my AT had gone a much smaller tendon was present and intact behind it a tendon which most people do not have any longer as it is not in use. He thinks it was a tendon used for gripping with your toes at some point in evolution ( The Monkey comments probably close to the mark) This obviously fascinated me but I am now a little surprised in all these threads it has not been mentioned as my Doctor says although unusual not particularly rare.
AH well stuck on the sofa watching the Golf
Cheers all
Jacksonblue.........dont worry, I play off 4 and was really concerned. It doesnt take long to get it back. The short game is the biggest sufferer but that comes. I didnt even think I would be able to strike the ball without hitting fat or thin and I think the concentration of balance actually helped. I went back at about 5 months and it was scarey, driving was amazing and irons were acceptably good. A friend of mine is an ex tour player and he was shocked. Then came the hard bit...........walking the course. This had to be built up gradually. I was getting home after 9 holes and could hardly walk in the evening, went to 12 then 16 then 18 over a couple of months and by 9 months all was normal. I still walk very carefully and look for any dangers and still wont take risks. I actually slightly twisted it on Wednesday and s$%T myself but it was fine and perfect the next day.
I got too depressed watching it and tried to limit that!!!!
My playing partners were gutted when I came back. Even on 9 holes they still couldnt beat me after a 5 month lay off.
By the way, I found that the golf swing was the best thing for loosening the ankle after a couple of swings. When I went back to work, I use to go into the garden before leaving and swing about 10 times!!!
Mark.........Literally waiting for my partner to collect me for a 12.45 tee!!!!!
