Shoulder Surgery - Medicare

Situation: I have a complete rupture of my biceps tendon and also have a slap lesion. It looks like I will need surgery and I have no health insurance.
I have been given 2 options.
1. Go through the public system and the public waiting list - 14 months
2. Go through private but pay up front - $10,000
I am currently looking at option 2 as I cannot wait 14 months.

My question is, has anyone had surgery for a similar issue ? and if so, what did medicare cover ? and roughly how much ?

$10,000 seems excessive to have it treated privately. Where do you live ?
