By the way what was all in cost for the operation and follow-up care?. Not sure if you have BUPA whether you would be covered, as pre-existing condition might be attached to FAI.

From your consultation sounds as if you could get away with not having the bone reshaped as long as you are not performing sports with very large range of hip rotation. The suspected lab tear would still need to be addressed in order to return to pain free movement.

Hi AJF could you please provide me with a link or something about Villars being the leading expert in the world in regards to FAI. I would be really interested in reading this, i was aware that there are a handful of specialists worldwide for treating FAI thru arthoscopy method, but didn't realise one was better than the others! I'd love to find out more on this.

Most of the articles in various websites I have read refer to Mr. Richard Villar, of the Wellington Hospital in London, UK, as "and a pioneer in hip arthroscopy". I don't think there is a "League Table" of FAI Surgeon's as such, but most people I have spoken to regard him as one of the leading Consultants.

You may want to consider seeing a sports physician/doctor at Pure Sports Medicine. They have contact with some of the best surgeons in the country. In addition they provide medical coverage for a lot of top sports teams.

I was a patient there for a couple of years when I lived in London and were fantastic. Their website address is www.puresportsmed.com

This is an old thread now, but as I came to think about the topic, why are you looking for a "young" surgeon? From an experience point of view I would recommend searching for an older surgeon who has the expertise to back up his assessment and treatments of your care. There is only one reason I could think of *cough* where you might be looking for a younger surgeon in that case I could give you a few names of newer ortho docs here

    hello

well I've just booked the surgery for hip no.1 and am feeling bit strange about it but also pleased it is going to be sorted. I've reconciled myself to the fact that I can't know exactly what they are going to do until they begin the arthroscope but that if Mr Villar thinks any of the possible probs he identified he can fix then I'm happy to trust him to do that...a hard think for a control freak like me to do!

Thanks to everyone for all their advice and support

Incidentally I thought I would mention that I did actually see Mr Villar through Pure Sports Med as he has a consulting room there. Oh and I was only after a surgeon who had worked on 'young hips' becuase that was what my GP told me to look into ...not after a hunky young surgeon

I'm going to go and read up on everyone's experiences of surgery now!

    Thanks again

    Kit

    Good luck Kit,
What is he intending to do and do you have a date yet?
