    Default Recovery time

    Hello,
I'm happy to be on board. This is my first post here.
I have a work related shoulder injury. Thru my job's clinic and doctors I've been thru physical therapy, anti-inflam, muscle relaxers, Cortisol shots, etc. Lucky a recent MRI showed no rotator cuff tear but A lot of inflammation in the shoulder joint. He talked very briefly about surgery helping but wants me to get another MRI on my neck first.
Since he's a clinic doc. working for my company he doesn't do a good job of explaining things to me when I ask. SO I'm hoping someone here can clue me in on how long it will take for me to recovery if I go into surgery to remove the inflammation?

    Thanx!
    Robert

you don't need a surgery to remove the inflammation,
find a better doctor who will inform you better about your situation

    Default Need help asap!

I am nearly 20 years old of age ,and in the past 2 years I've been depressed due to my right shoulder injury..

I injured it exactly 1 year and 9 months ago at the gym when i was working on my shoulders. The exercise was me holding two dumbbells and lifting them aside to shoulder height. As i was raising i twisted my wrist and i felt my shoulder click and pain occurred. I think this exercise is called shoulder raises with dumbels but i didn't bend my elbows as i was going up, my elbows were straight.

My shoulder is dropped and i can feel my ribs feel weird and crushed in together. After seeing many sports pyhsios they say i've got a rotator calf injury, where i receive pain front the front of the shoulder and the back of the shoulder. It feels very weak but also pain when i do specific movements or even try to go back to the gym, which is my main aim to go back to the gym.

Ive had 2 ultrasounds and nothing was detected, still haven't had an MRI

I then gave my shoulder 4 months rest as i thought it was good to give it rest, but really it wasn't! In the past ive seen physios, osteopaths ive been doing the rehab exercises for like a year and no progress.. I am at the extent where i am really confused and frustrated in knowing what to do to heal my shoulder. It may sound bad but it really isnt, i just need to see someone that knows what is wrong with me, because the past people ive seen don't know jack shit!

should i see a shoulder specialist first (if so who?) or get an MRI first.

Can someone please help me what to do, i live in melbourne..

If the inflammation is really bad & anti inflams & cortison shots etc didn't work, they can do a synovectomy to scrap out all inflammed stuff. I had this about 18 months ago & have never looked back. Recovery & pain are not that bad after op at all.

As a good starting point I would go and see a good sports physician that is good with shoulders.

There are some good sports physicians at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne that are good with shoulders. Let me know if you want their names.

You can spend a lot of money on unnecessary treatments. I've had problems with both shoulders and ended up having surgery on both and am under a good shoulder physio at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre who works for one of Melbourne's top AFL clubs.

    Hi
I had shoulder surgery on 10/09/08. Mine was also work related, inflammation of the bursa, impingement. I did 4 months of physio, and had two cortisone shots which helped with the strength I had lost, plus restored some movement, but the pain continued, so after discussion with my orthopaedic surgeon had the surgery, subacromial decompression, with the bursa removed. Initially I did not have too much pain at all, and the movement was excellent, however the third week, I have got bad bicep pain and twitching in the shoulder when I try to sleep. Calmed down a bit now, with complete rest, but also have painful shoulder blade and neck.
I understand that it will take about 6 months for complete recovery, but trying to remain positive that the surgery will solve the problem.
