Default rotator cuff injury, give me advice please!

I am nearly 20 years old of age ,and in the past 2 years I've been depressed due to my right shoulder injury..

I injured it exactly 1 year and 9 months ago at the gym when i was working on my shoulders. The exercise was me holding two dumbbells and lifting them a side to shoulder height. As i was raising i twisted my wrist so i could work the back of my shoulder and i felt my shoulder click and pain occurred. I think this exercise is called shoulder raises with dumbels but i didn't bend my elbows as i was going up, my elbows were straight.

My shoulder is dropped and i can feel my ribs feel weird and crushed in together. After seeing many sports pyhsios they say i've got a rotator cuff injury, where i receive pain front the front of the shoulder and the back of the shoulder. It feels very weak but also pain when i do specific movements or even try to go back to the gym, which is my main aim to go back to the gym.

Ive had 2 ultrasounds and nothing was detected, still haven't had an MRI!

I then gave my shoulder 4 months rest as i thought it was good to give it rest, but really it wasn't! In the past ive seen physios, osteopaths ive been doing the rehab exercises for like a year and no progress.. I am at the extent where i am really confused and frustrated in knowing what to do to heal my shoulder. It may sound bad but it really isnt, i just need to see someone that knows what is wrong with me, because the past people ive seen don't know jack shit!

should i see a shoulder specialist first (if so who?) or get an MRI first.

Can someone please help me what to do, i live in melbourne..

    Hi there,

I would strongly recommend going to good sports physician that is good with shoulders. Mine is Andrew Jowett and is great with shoulders and is based at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre. He should be able to help. If you need referral to a shoulder surgeon I would recommend Greg Hoy or John Salmon. I think you need to see a physio that specialises in shoulders. My physio, Ian Macindoe specialises in shoulders and may be able to help. He is also at Olympic Park.

    Hope this helps.

tHANK YOU SO MUCH Kjwilkin.. i see you been helping many people on these forums, your avery good person. I just made an appointment with lyn watson and will see her on thursday. Do you reckon this is a good choice of physio wise? Can she be able to tell me the problem ,and if i need a surgery? And last thing what would she do in just 20 mins of consultation while im paying $110? Does she manuluate nerves to be put back into place or what?
    thank you..

    Hi there,

Personally I wouldn't see Lyn Watson as I think she is way too expensive.

My shoulder physio is Ian Macindoe at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre. He is much cheaper and is a great shoulder physio. He'll also consider neck and back too.

You would be much better off seeing a good sports physician first. They can diagnose your condition properly and advise on the best course of treatment.

Unfortunately I have a lot of injuries over time and got to know the good people. Also know from my work as a sports trainer.

    Hope this helps.

My old physio works out at Olympic park and he specialises in shoulder injuries. I think that he may be a little more expensive the KJs physio but he is extremely thorough and spends a lot of time looking at how your muscles move.

I think that it also comes down to personal preference. All of the physio's recommended are really good.

Kjwilkin.. For the past 3 months ive been to Lyn Watson's clinic off chapel street. She made me get an MRI, And after getting it they found nothing wrong with my shoulder. Off i course was happy with the news, but pissed off caUSE MY SHOULDER STILL HURTS. In the past 3 months they have made me to do exercises which will put my shoulder back up and into place, because they saw how it has droped. I know im doing the rehab correctly but still no result. They say i'll know by Feb if its getting better or not.. and if it doesnt i'll need surgery, how is that possible when the MRI said im fine..? im so confused, what should i do Kjwilkin??

    Hi Kjwilkin,

I am having the exact same problem with the exception of having the surgery two months ago!
    Any hints Please
