Smile On Waiting List For Surgery - Yippee!

    Hi All,

Just thought I would let you know that I heard from the hospital yesterday and I am now on the waiting list for surgery ? hooray! I am having a pre-op assessment in January and surgery by the end of March. I am very relieved as things are so bad. Had friends to stay a couple of weekends ago and I think they were shocked at the state I was in.

Have now caved in and started using a stick and I am also on Bu Trans patches which help me sleep and help the pain throughout the day as they give a continuous low dose of strong painkiller. I have been able to function to a point which has helped make me feel better. However I have today walked the 400 yards to our post office armed with the stick but ended up in tears part way home as the pain was so severe. Sorry to be so self indulgent but I have to tell someone!

I feel for all of you out there with similar problems. I am not going onto the forum constantly as things are pretty bad but I am here and thinking about you. I can?t wait to get through the next few months. Not sure when number two hip will be done but I am not thinking about that just dreaming of long country walks when all of this is over.

    Hi Rayray,

Vent as much as you like, we all know what you are going through, and sometimes it helps to be able to put down your feelings. I have felt guilty that at low points I feel like all I have done is moaned on here, but have had lots of support from everyone who have assured me that its ok to do that- so now its my turn to tell you to vent all you want. Its what we are here for to support each other.
I am so sorry things are so bad for you at the moment, but it will get better. Keep dreaming of those country walks- thats what I dream about too so can definatley relate. At least by the time you have your surgery this crappy weather will be improving and those walks can be taken in the summer!!
Have you tries crutches instead of a stick? I feel less self -conscious than using a stick.

Sorry, got interrupted with last post.

I felt so much better once I had a date to work to , it makes you feel at least the end is in sight.
One thing I have learned through this hip experiance is how difficult and painful life can be for those who are disabled. I am so thankful that this is just a temporary condition for me and that one day, hopefully sooner rather than later , I will be back to being 'normal' again. I hope that I have become more compassionate and understanding for people who are not so lucky, I have certainly learned to value my health a lot more and not take things for granted.

Great only 3 months to go!
And there's nothing wrong with using a cane. For years I kept asking if I could have one or crutches & the doctors would not agree to it. Thing is, these doctors didn't know what my problem was. I really really could've used one & now I bring mine where ever I go just in case I need it.

Thanks Kate, Vixen and LMS for your support. It really helps and I hope that you are all having a 'good day'! It was beautiful here yesterday. I live in the South West English countryside and everything was bathed in crisp white frost which didn't lift all day. Althoygh I couldn't get out there it was stunning to look at. We put up the Christmas tree and decorations and it made me feel really good!

    Take care all of you.
