    Question Spinal Cord Tumor

    Hi
I have just been diagnosed with a Spinal cord tumor at the C5/6 level, apparently this a very rare tumor & no one wants to touch. Has anyone had the same tumor & does anyone know of a great neuro that they recommend for a opinion & options.

    thanks Donna

    Hi there,

I would recommend going to see someone in Sydney or Melbourne.

As a first point I would go and see a good sports physician first. If you choose to come to Melbourne I would recommend seeing Dr Paul Blackman or Dr Andrew Jowett at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre. Dr Jowett is my sports physician and is great. Very conservative and always refers to the top specialists. The number for Olympic Park is 03 9427 0366. Toll free number is 1300 859 887.

There are some great neuro surgeons in Melbourne, but all have different specialties.

I don't think it would be necessary to travel to Melbourne. You must have had an MRI for someone (presumably a Dr) to make such a diagnosis? and to make such a remark "no one wants to touch it" I would be asking your GP to make enquires in Sydney there are many excellent Neurosurgeons that would specialise in this area: some names that spring to mind would be at Randwick Mobbs/Coughlan, St Vincents Tim Steel, St George Mark Davies. I think if I was you I would be doing some research and getting your local doctor involved on your behalf. Even if this tumour were to be benign you need to have a neurosurgical investigation and opinion about what your treatment options are: Good Luck!

    Default Spinal Cord Tumor

I got a disc hernia and MS at the same time, which has often struck me as odd. The hernia was at thoracic discs 6 and 7. ?Could the hernia have brought about or triggered latent MS?? I wonder.
If any of you have had Spinal Cord Damage of any kind and feel that it has influenced your MS, please respond to this message.

Oops, that kind condition is so new to me. Anyways, I would like to monitor this discussion as I want to learn more about spinal cord tumor because as far as I'm concern it sounds serious and need to be treated the proper way it should be. Anyone who can fruitfully contribute on this kind of condition.
