Forearm fractures are worrying injuries in football because of the contact nature of the rules. Although modern surgery and technology (such as bone growth stimulators) can make the recovery time for these injuries surprisingly quick, they still suffer a high recurrence rate.
The full strength of a fracture is probably not recovered for many months
after injury, yet a fracture can get back to 80% surprisingly quickly (a matter
of weeks), leaving the return to play decision quite difficult.
Unfortunately Corey Flynn of the Canterbury Crusaders has suffered multiple forearm fractures (left and right), with his most recent fracture occuring in the 2nd round of the 2009 Super 14 season. He re-fractured his radius in the same place he did it in the UK in the pre season.
