Scaphoid fractures
The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist, but due to poor blood supply is notorious for poor healing and consequently, chronic pain after fracture. Most scaphoid fractures will be immobilised for a minimum of 6 weeks to ensure good boney union.
If a scaphoid fracture does not heal properly there is the risk of avascular necrosis. (1.) Bone grafting (2.)Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF) surgery or both is required if fracture healing is poor.
