Foot stress fractures
Foot stress fractures are potentially severe injuries that can require long recovery periods. They are one of the few injuries that are definitely more common in younger than older players.
Some stress fractures can be treated by relative rest, without requiring plaster or surgery.
The most feared stress fractures in the foot are to the navicular and 5th metatarsal. These fractures often require plaster or surgery, and even then have a high rate of recurrence.
