Pectoralis major tendon tears

The pectoralis major muscle is a prime mover of the shoulder joint and is not commonly injured. However, ruptures of the tendon can occur and if left unrepaired, can lead to a permanent decrease in shoulder strength. In football players therefore, surgery is often recommended, which takes many months of rehabilitation. Professional football players who have torn pectoralis tendons in the past include Anthony Stevens (North Melbourne Kangaroos), Luke Davico (Canberra Raiders).
