Anterior Impingement

Anterior ankle impingement is called 'footballer's ankle' in some parts of the world due to its common occurence in soccer players. It refers to bone spurs forming at the front of the ankle after repetitive sprains or contact injuries. This can cause ongoing pain at the front of the ankle associated with reduced range of forward movement (dorsi-flexion) of the ankle.

The treatment of anterior ankle impingement includes cortisone injections and arthroscopic surgery.
