Navicular Stress Fracture
The navicular stress fracture is the most feared of all stress fractures in the running athlete. The navicular is a small bone at the top of the arch of the foot and has a poor reputation for healing due to its poor blood supply. For this reason, navicular stress fractures sometimes require surgical fixation for complete healing.Jack Grimes of the Melbourne Demons suffered a navicular stress fracture in the 2011 AFL season.
A walker boot may be used as part of the treatment of navicular stress fractures.
