Pre-patellar bursitis
The prepatellar bursa is a pocket of fluid which is located at the front of the knee. Although the bursa can sometimes swell dramatically, it usually does not limit an athlete's ability to run. Football players may experience a swollen bursa if they repetitively land on it.The major concern with the prepatellar bursa is its propensity to become infected. This happened to Andrew Gaze of the Melbourne Tigers during the 2002 NBL season. He is pictured to the right wearing a supportive knee sleeve.
